Wow. I just read a really great op-ed piece from the New York Times. This editorial is such so eloquently relates how I feel about the immigration debate in this country. Not only are Hispanics mistreated so severely, but one day we will look back on this time in our country and shake our heads in shame.
The time has come for us to recognize the human and civil rights of all people in our country, be they here legally, illegally, male, female, trans-gendered, Asian, Caucasian, bi-racial, African-American, Middle Eastern, Inuit, Native American, European, Latin American, Muslim, Jewish, Catholic, Atheist, non-denominational, Protestant, Wiccan, heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, asexual, Vegan, Vegetarian, Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian, Macrobiotic, Omnivore, alcoholic, social drinker, teetotaler, recreational drug user, junkie, crack head, on the wagon, anorexic, bulimic, obsessive-compulsive, schizophrenic, bipolar, borderline, socialist, anarchist, fundamentalist, conservative, liberal, green, independent, communist, libertarian, or otherwise. The bottom line is that we are all human beings and we all deserve a chance.
