Hi Mary,
I came across your blog. Thanks for your support. All the appeals to Supreme Court have been denied and the case has been deemed closed with the judgment upheld. In addition Amanda Farahony says I am 100% liable for the financial burden. This will make it very hard for women in Georgia to win a sexual assault case and unfortunately further the stigma on rape. In the 8 years that have passed after that night I have become a stronger and better person. I do regret the decision the court made but because the Macon police were not going to take any action (Mercer is a big part of that town and they were ‘too busy with murder cases’) I felt I had to take my case to a civil court. What were my choices? Sue or let him get away with it all? Despite the fact that I might spend the rest of my life paying this off, I don’t regret the decision to take him to trial. At least I slightly disrupted his life. At least he had to look someone in the face and deny what he did. Things don’t always have a happy ending but I would never advise another woman to let someone get away with silence.
Keep up your blogging. Someone might hear!
